Mozart Piano Concertos Nos. 12, 13 & 14
The Chamber Version
Wallisch's readings contain many attractive qualities: immaculately clean fingerwork, fine phrase-characterisation and sense of balance. - BBC Music Magazine
His playing is a thing of rare beauty and a joy to behold
This is a must for all Mozart mavens. - Fanfare
The prize for poise, blended tone and general lustre was ultimately won by the Piatti Quartet. - The Times
Master Mozartian Gottlieb Wallisch explores the rich concerti repertoire of his fellow Austrian in Mozart: Piano Concertos Nos. 12, 13 & 14, the third in his acclaimed series of recordings.
Bright young string ensemble, the Piatti Quartet, joins Wallisch to perform Mozart’s own rarely-heard chamber orchestrations.
In contrast to the orchestral version the ensemble strikingly enhances the intricacies of the string writing and encourages immediate interaction among the five musicians.
Mozart's piano concertos have been likened to instrumental operas; they are full of musical content of gripping force and drama, while remaining movingly subtle and pure.
Born into a family of Viennese musicians, Gottlieb Wallisch is a competition prizewinner and a respected artist in the Viennese piano tradition. He was named a Steinway Artist in early 2012.
Gottlieb Wallisch has performed with many leading orchestras including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, the Stuttgart Chamber and the Zagreb Philharmonic.
Gottlieb participated in the international cycle ‘Rising Stars’ and gave solo recitals in Musikverein Vienna, Konzerthus-Stockholm, Societé Philharmonique in Brussels, the Athens Concert Hall and the Carnegie Hall, New York. Numerous concert tours have also led him to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Spain, Germany and Switzerland.
The Piatti Quartet (Charlotte Scott 1st violin, Michael Trainor 2nd violin, David Wigram viola, Jessie Ann Richardson cello) is fast emerging as one of the UK’s leading young string quartets having already won the St. Martins in the Fields Chamber Music Competition, Hattori Foundation Awards and the Martin Musical/Philharmonia Scholarship Fund.
