In The London Orchestra Series, Cala Records brings together the finest British performers on a given instrument, aligning them with talented and sympathetic arrangers. Our goal with these large, single-instrument orchestras is to stimulate performances which are rich in sound and exciting in concept. In providing a showcase for the artistry and creativity of the musicians, we trust that the recordings will provide a unique and enjoyable listening experience.
The London Trumpet Orchestra was first issued on two short CDs as The London Trumpet Sound. Cala Records is pleased now to present sixteen of the best tracks in one full-length volume, with the original fine sound still further enhanced by the remarkable new SACD / Surround technology.
The London Trumpet Orchestra balances classical, jazz, latin and popular music. The entire trumpet family is involved, from supple basses to stratospheric piccolos. The recording sessions were divided between the church of St Jude-on-the-Hill for the classical items and BBC Maida Vale's Studio 3 for the popular tracks. When the red light came on, the jovial camaraderie amongst the brass players gave way to total concentration on ensemble music-making and the production of spectacular solos. It was particularly encouraging to see how seasoned pros and rising stars alike would urge each other on to give of their best.
