BIZET: Symphony in C - L'Arlésienne Suites
DEBUSSY: Children's Corner Suite
Cala Records continue their Stokowski Series of 'first CD releases' with more of the spectacular recordings which Stokowski made with his own hand-picked ensemble of brilliant New York virtuosi during the 1950s. Originally recorded for RCA Victor, Stokowski's first-ever performance and recording of Bizet's Symphony in C headiines the disc, coupled with the two suites from L'Arlésienne. Debussy's Children's Corner in thé Caplet orchestration completes a disc of popular French classics.
The original Bizet LP garnered praise from the critics in 1952, The Record Guide calling it "a most enjoyable coupling, splendidly played and recorded, while The New Records mentioned fine and sympathetic performances .
